NGOMA Lost In Music free download

Another bank holiday is upon us, and to celebrate the next 4 days of freedom, to toast the happy couple as well look forward to the end of the ongoing boredom of media manure that has come with the whole royal wedding pa lava our boys NGOMA have sent over a pretty regal tune for all of you to down load and keep as a momentum.

Photobucket

NGOMA aka Ben Peel and Tom Stockdale have been working non stop over the past 12 months honing in their studio skills as well as keeping things tight on the DJ front and things are definitely starting to pay off.

"Lost in music" takes a classic sample (You've probably guessed what it is by now) and subtly slides it in with a refreshingly vintage house beat jazzed up with a lot of new age fun.

Any way, here's a statement from Ben NGOMA to get us in the celebratory swing of things and make sure you check out the Lost In Music video below as well as get on the free track download from the Soundcloud link further down the page.

"We look forward with great anticipation to Friday, as my local which has no television will be virtually empty leaving the bar maid ample time to attend to our every whim. Thank you Wills and Kate." - Ben NGOMA

Tom Trago live mix

To get us through this weeks hump day we thought we'd post this superb DJ set by Dutch New Skooler Tom Trago recorded live at About:Blank at Get Deep, Berlin back in March.

Photobucket

The live recording itself is pretty gritty at points but it only adds to the charm with the mix combining elements of house, Detroit sounds, techno and most importantly disco in a smooth and party popping style.

Tom Trago @ Get Deep - 12.03.11 Berlin by tomtrago

Amsterdam based Tom has released an ongoing line of sure fire tunes, preliminarily on the superb Rush Hour imprint since 2006. We're big fans of Tom Trago's stuff with a couple of YouTube vids below exhibiting some of my personal favorites. The upbeat strings of "Use Me Again" making it one of my top tunes of the past 6 months (note that its slipped in as the penultimate track on the mix if you want to save it and all it's glory for your journey home peak time pon di ear bud player).

His second full length album "Iris" is out now on Rush Hour and available here. Get on over and cop yourself a hard copy.

Tuesday's YouTube Summer Fresh Playlist

Well that was one hell of a bank holiday. A lot of fun was has and our livers are suitably punished. If you are like me and have to hit the workage front over the next 3 days until the second bank holiday weekend kicks in ( for people outside the UK and have been on their usual work week schedule.....sorry for rubbing it in) I've put together a selection of summer felt tunes below to lighten things up and get us through the short week.

I know it's a bit of a lazy excuse for a post but i am still feeling the bank holiday laziness, we do however promise to get a new and long awaited mix from myself and Mr Robin up soon
.

Liking this remix from DJ Koze below of the Danish trio WhoMadeWho. Released back in 2009 and still sounding 2011 summer fresh.

Standardly ice clean remix from man of the moment Julio Bashmore for the High Powered Boys latest release "Undon" on Sound Pellegrino here. The "Julio Bashmore Sax Dub" as it states on the release definitely makes the most of it's sax input. Makes me want to be the topless sax man from The Lost Boys all over again.

Summer goodness from Miami based label petFood. Their latest offering from producer Poupon's "Full Time Lovin Ep" with the B side "2 Close" below.

Another petFood release below from the end of last year by Lozaro Casanova with "Mhm, Yeah Yeah". Sampling Lidell Townsell's 1992 Chicago classic "Nu Nu" which we've also cracked in below as it has to be paid it's dues.

Summer Jazziness in the form of Daft Punks 1996 remix of I:Cube's (aka Nicolas Chaix) "Disco Cubism". Mmmmmmmmmmmm nice.

Finally, to complete today's summer play list a tune that i wish could be an in ear soundtrack to any sunshine filled day "New Jersey Deep" by the Black Science Orchestra. Frrrresshhhhhhhh.

DJ Sneaks #6 Heir Max - On+On Launch party mix

Time for the latest DJ Sneaks and who better to bring the Easter weekend in in style than our good friend and sneaker fiend DJ Heir Max. Heir Max aka Johnny Clash has been on the cards for his first DJ Sneaks mix for quite some time now. A true purveyor of kicks and man of impeccable taste in my opinion, Heir Max has most definitely paid his dues on the London club scene with Robin and Myself first hooking up with him many years back during the late days of London's Trash parties and the beginning of the Durrr years (I also blame him for our addiction to the End clubs endless supply of Coffee tequila).

Photobucket

Also, a mix on the opening of the epic weekend ahead times in perfectly with the launch of Heir Max's new regular party On+On this Friday. On+On is the brain child of Heir Max and his delightful other half Daisy Clash. Their first party venture together and Heir Max's first project away from his regular Playdoh/Sweatshop crew and his DJ duo "Big Shadow Step". We are honoured to be joining the line up this Friday for On+On at Catch on Kingsland road and as well as Heir Max gracing the plates for the evening Johnny and Daisy have also invited a very special secret guest down for the headline slot......no hints, but it will definitely be worth the trip down to Kingsland road.

Heir Max's Kicks. As mentioned earlier, Johnny is a true purveyor if fine sports based footwear so choosing to days subject was always going to be hard (This boy has a serious amount of fresh kicks). But after much deliberation and because i am desperate to own a pair myself we have gone with his re release pair of the legendary trainer, The Jordan IIIs.
Possibly my favorite pair of kicks ever, the Jordan IIIs are known for their comfort and definitely score high on the style points. Designed by Tinker Hatfield and first released in 1988 the Jordan IIIs were the first Jordan to feature the "Jumpman" logo and when first released was not one of Nikes biggest sellers. Later re releases combining the shoes marketing with the Spike Lee film "She's Gotta Have it" with the IIIs famously being donned by Spike's character in the film Mars Blackmon as well as endorsement from rap stars including Big Daddy Kane shot the shoe in to the history books.

And of course Michael wore them too, notably in one of the most famous images of Michael Jordan ever, mid air during the 1988 all stars dunk contest which he of course won. The IIIs are said to be
MJs favorite release ever in the Jordan series.

Photobucket

Heir Max's mix. Some true disco kicking off this perfectly mixed selection building things up to an energetic house tip later on and in true Heir Max style dusting things off with some rowdy techno. Some big ones in there from over the past few years and its riotous end really brings back some messy End club memories. Crack this one on the generic Mp3 player as soon as you can and get things shaking in preparation for the 4 day onslaught ahead.

ON+ON by HEIR MAX

Pelski and Jackmode Presents at Counter Culture

One hella big weekend coming up this week so we thought we'd go over a few of our recommendations. We'll be bringing more info on our Friday night set at the On+On launch later in the week as well as some Thursday eve recommendations but today we thought we should concentrate on Saturday's epic musical gathering put together by the mighty Jackmode agency and the king of the dancy musical blogisphere Pelski.

This Saturday Jackmode and Pelski take over the Crucifix Lane Counter Culture ware house space, a venue that has been providing London's underground with some serious line ups over the past 6 months.

Jackmode and Pelski have already laid down two huge parties at the venue in November and December of last year and once again the set list sheets will not be disappointing.
Heading up room 1 this time round are San Francisco based siblings and Dirty Bird veterans The Martin Brothers.

Photobucket

After Smashing Trouble Vision a few weeks back, Justin Martin alone is enough to get the dance floor juices flowing, so the first UK set by Justin AND his brother Christian in quite some is certainly one not to miss. Their crunching signature style of house will most certainly be making the most of the Crucifix lane function one system and the lovely people of Jackmode have sent us over the first ever Martin Brothers mix tape to show us how.

This mix is really rather special, filled with a number of my favorite current jams and put together in the care free yet tight as a ducks arse style that can only be expected from the Martin Brothers. Get the mix and the track listing at the bottom of the post and talking of ducks we've also posted the official video for The Martin Brothers track "Duck Face" to give you an idea of the crazy but dance floor perfect creations these two tend come out with.

Joining The Martin Bros this Saturday are plenty of other Jackmode family members all worth the trip down to crucifix Lane in their own right including some of our personal faves...... Mr. Ho, Luca Lozano, Johanna Knutsson, James Creed, Charles Darkly and Mr Pelski himself. Another notable addition to the line up and laying out his solo project is one half of Zombie Disco Squad Nat Self. And in true gentlemanly style Nat and Jackmode have also provided us a free download of a tasty little number you can find posted at the bottom of the page as well.

If you are looking for a serious session this Bank Holiday make sure you get on down to Crucifix lane on Saturday night and hopefully we'll see you there! Full party deets on the two links below.

Friday Mixtuals - Camel + Cazenove

Friday! My most favorite day of the week is upon us. And what better way to warm up an evening of endless possibilities and drunken adventures than with two fresh off the plates mixes for your listening pleasure.

First up this delightful beats lay down as well as a quality free track download from Italian based houster Camel. Camel, aka Andrea Maver has had a flying past 12 months including original releases on DeadFish and Blotter records as well as remixing duties for some of our favorite artists including Matt Walsh, Rachel Barton and Mowgli. All this hard work has seen his DJ schedule go through the roof with Camel rocking enough parties Worldwide over the past 12 months that he could put Silvio Burlusconi to shame.

Photobucket

The mix is a standard Camel quality affair with a number of groove ridden upbeat jams including the soulful yet subtle Luna City Express remix of Gene Siewing's "You're Not A DJ" which i am particularly enjoying over this spring season.

On the Free track front. Camel has put together a superb bootleg of Baltimore MC Sagat's 1994 classic hit "Funk Dat". Slightly gutted that we didn't think of doing this as we have been hammering the original hard recently. But at the same time Camel has provided a cleaned up set ready beast of a re edit that will put any other edit in it's place, so basically a win situation all round.

Check them both out and get on the download from the below Souncloud players.

CAMEL VS SAGAT - FUKDAT BOOT 2011 - EXCLUSIVE GIVEAWAY by Jackmode

Second up to day is another quality mix from London based Sheffield originators Cazenove.

We featured Cazenove, aka Firas & Jay Karim a few months back and they have sent us over another quality mix selection put together live at the Nest London. A true to style house syrup with a twist of funk affair here with things constantly building but never becoming to much. A perfect mix to get your day going.

Photobucket

The guys made their Fabric debut back in January and have upcoming gigs lined up at Secret Garden Party, Bestival,The Big Chill festival as well as London staple Big in Japan. Their debut Ep is being readied as we type so look out for that dropping soon.

Cazenove (Firas & Jay Karim) Live at The Nest London by firas

No Tracklist for this one to keep you guessing. A bit of old skool digging never did anyone any harm.

Peas.

B. Lewis

Something a little less house orientated today.

I came across the wares of B. Lewis (Brad Lewis) randomly a few weeks back when a work colleague cracked on his latest master piece of an album on the communal player and i am addicted. Since then i have been working google like a beast to try and find out as much about the man as possible and it is proving tough. With his illusive online presence albeit the standard soundcloud ( http://soundcloud.com/blewie17), twitter and more importantly his Bandcamp page I'm finding it hard to get any real back ground on the fella. But as a result it really lets his music do the talking which as far as i can make out seems to be the most important thing in his eyes.

Photobucket

The album in question is the San Francisco based producers recently released (11th March) long player "Science within reason". A 30 track strong master piece in my opinion and unbelievably the dude is unsigned!?
The album is available on his bandcamp page in full quality for a "Make your own offer" price of $3 or more. He has also cracked a 128 kpbs version on a free mediafire link at the bottom of the bandcamp page as well (Trust me when i say you want to buy the full quality version to get the best out of it though).

With the current flo of Jamie Woons and James Blakes this album takes in a similar atmospheric electronic (in his words "Messy Soul") vibe. But i am in no way putting this in the same camp or even wanting to make any similarities between them. This dude packs a lot of soul, and the beats that come through are definitely going to be a sound track to the summer for me.

Anyway, more than enough of my jibber jabber and let the YouTube and bandcamp links below do the talking. Make sure you get on over to his band camp page as well and pick up a (full quality) copy of the album as soon as you can.

Tom Findlay Lovebox weekend Jam

The sunshine is finally here in it's full glory and all i can think about is getting out side, drinking some beers and playing out or listening too serious summer soundage on a very large sound system to masses of like minded party monkeys.

Yes, festival season is almost upon us and we are super hyped to be playing at a good few this year including Gottwood, Farr Festival and Stop Making Sense all of which are sure to be serious summer high lights.

Today though we thought we would alert you to one of our favorite London city jams as there is nothing better than being able to spend a day drinking and dancing to the music you love in the open air, but having the option to jump on a bus and be home, showered and fed to prepare for the next day of leg shaking ( please note the going home bit is optional with numerous after parties just around the corner)

Photobucket

LoveBox is a true veteran of the London Town festival scene and we have been very honoured to have been involved over the past few years. The standard London inner city get together laced with awful sound systems, over the top council noise regulations and poor bar facilities is not something that you can associate with the LoveBox fam as these chaps have some serious experience in running outside noise. 8 years strong and with some dance music heavy weights that can call themselves original Lovebox family members, LoveBox knows how to get things right and with their line ups getting fresher with each year be sure to get on to at least one if not all of the 3 days of party this year. Guests to name but a few include Flying Lotus, Floating points, David Rodigan, Motor City Drum Ensemble, 2 Many DJs and that's not even going into the main stage set up (Full line up so far here).

And to get things in motion original LoveBox crew member, 1 half of Dance music royalty Groove Armada and all round nice bloke Tom Findlay ( mug shot below ) has put together a tantalising mix to remind us of what is coming. Tom, although better know for his Groove Armada party bouncers is one hell of a house DJ with various solo releases in his back pocket and a dance floor knowledge that keeps original housters right though to the new kids on the block popping all night. Any one lucky enough to have seen him play as our DeadFish family and Friends secret guest last year will know this only too well.

Photobucket

Check out His Mix "LoveBox Weekend Jam" on the Soundcloud player below and make sure you get over to www.Lovebox.net for full party details, line up and Tickets.

The Trouble with Justin Martin

Another exhausting but ridiculously fun weekend done with. Love to the Time Out London crew for Fridays party and big ups to Tom Boogaloo Crew Edwards and Mr Heir Max who joined me on Saturday at the Big Chill House for another riotous Zulu Tea Party session.

On to the next weekend it is then, and we are more excited than an excited thing on international get excited day for this one.

Trouble Vision returns this Friday with a standardly Trouble Visonable line up including Julio Bashmore, Jackmaster, Loefah, Wookie and Dark Sky all joining us chaps and fellow residents Mr Solid Gold, Park Ranger, Hesseltime, Hylu and Jago on the wheels of steel for what is looking to be another sell out rave pit.

Photobucket

Also headlining this instalment of Trouble Vision and causing a large amount of the pre party excitement in my eyes is San Fransisco based producer and Dirty Bird family member Justin Martin. Justin Martin has been one of our favorite producers for a very long time and we are super hyped to sharing the bill with such a house legend. The anticipation in hearing his set on The Corsica Studios sound system is also making me a little moist to be honest.

Photobucket

His first release "Sad Piano" on Buzzin Fly back in 2003 all the way though to his latest original track (alongside Ardalan) "Mr Spock" on Dirty Bird records drip with quality and his large crunchy but groove stepping tracks always smash the dance floor. An element of not taking things too seriously on the samples and sounds used within his tunes (as well as life in general) is always apparent and results in a sound that distinguish Justin from the pack as well as resulting in some seriously good mix tapes.

To get you in the mood (and to make sure you get on that ticket now) we have compiled a selection of Justin Gems for you to shower your ear holes with over the next few days. The conditioning will both allow your ears to adjust to the onslaught of Friday's serious amounts of fun as well as refresh your mind as to what a legend Justin Martin is.

Definitely get on the DL with Justin's Mini Mix for Annie Mac, his essential mix for BBC radio one from last year as well as a cheeky free down load of his "Nude" remix all on the Sound Cloud links below. We've also included a YouTube audio play of Sad piano.

Enjoy and hopefully see you all at Corsica Studios this Friday. (tickets here http://tinyurl.com/TVApr )
