The Warm Up? + a wee mix tape from BoaBoa

So, Barcelona was a lot of Fun. Big ups to Adrian and the Hush Bar crew, definitely up for heading back there in the summer.

Now on to something i think we're likey to bang on about quite abit on here....the art of the warm up.

Now everyone likes to play the big tunes that get people popping when they can and sometimes on a dauntingly empty dance floor it can seem an all to easy option to crack out something a little noisey but inevitably inappropriate and sadly this happens a little to often.

We have a lot of respect for the DJs that know how to build a dance floor, whether it's from the first doors of a party or even cleaning up after the over enthusiastic Crookers fan there is a distinct art to the build up selection. You also have the confidence in knowing that if a DJ can set the party in a classy swing early on in the eve, chances are they certainly know what to do with the busier slots.

This resident advisor article from back in September 2009 neatly sums it up if you have a few minutes more of reading time spare..

Anyway, getting to the point, we thought a good use of this space would be to post the odd mix from DJs we have heard and seen play who seem to really have the art of the warm up perfectly dialled, a perfect selection and build up of house orientated sounds (some new, some old, some known and some dug from the depths of obscurity) that always seem to create the starting point to any good party.

BoaBoa (aka David Boa) is certainly one of these selectas. Dark Party blogger and all round nice bloke, we have had the pleasure of having David along to play at Superfilth back in the Summer of 2010, as well as both of us being big fans of his regular mix tapes. The below "Basquiat 2011" mix being his latest edition.
Its a perfect slice of what we think sums up proper good house of the moment. It also contains the Midland remix of the beautifuly brilliant 2 Bears track "Church" as well as "Battle for Middle You" from the recent Julio Bashmore EP "Everyone Needs a Theme Tune" which have both got me right in the mood for Friday night! It's a shame it's only Tuesday.
