Hackman mix for The Daily Street

The Daily Street has been pretty on it recently with their regular online mix tape posts, now up to release 10 in the series by Cardiff's hotly tipped drum and bass newcomer Lung. Past notable mixes in the series from the end of last year coming from the superb Throwing Snow and Darksky with both of these tapes definitely needing to be checked out here.

A personal favorite of mine (that i haven't taken off repeat for over a month now) is Leeds based producer Hackman's mix for edition "008". Better known by us in the past for his UK funky/bassier sounds this mix is packed full on with housier end gems. A little late on posting this i know but if you haven't yet checked out Hackman DJ live yet this mix will definitely get you wanting to.

Check out the mix on the player below or head over to the Daily Street site for more enlightening waffle and quality mix tapes.

Garms with no Arms

In a vague attempt to try and get some more free Ts sent over (I some how manage to lose T shirts at a surprisingly regular rate?) as well as the fact that there are some really cool labels out there selling T shirts that pretty much out do your standard high street crap in design and price, from now on i shall be posting garms of the week.......Or at least until Robin tells me to stop.

Anyway. This weeks must have T-Garm below is from relatively new Berlin based label Klasse Records. Check out the pic below. Available in Majestic White and Really Black. Go buy it here for a bargain 25 Euros.

Go check out their Soundcloud player also below with some snippets from the new Johanna Knutsson "Heavy Baby" Ep out on Klasse on the 29th March including mixes from James Creed and Klasse label boss Luca Lozano.

FRANKY REDENTE

Ciao Franky!
<span class=

Franky Redente (Another one of our favorite Italian imports) has just sent over his latest mix for you all to have an ear wag over. Just listening through it myself and it definitely shines with the quality of DJ set i know Franky lays down at every Dead Fish Family and Friends session (where he also residents).

Franky has been working hard in the studio over the past few months and this mix is littered with Franky Redente re edits as well as one of his own original slices "Era Glaciale" (Ice Age), which i think is going to be a real winner. Starts deep and smooth and picks things up later on a real house tip, Franky has definitely kept the groove rolling through this mix.
One for the pre Friday evening warm up ipod for sure.

Take a listen below and hit up his Soundcloud site for the download

Farr Festival

Very excited about this one! Farr Fest a festival now moving into it second year has decided to step it up a notch in 2011 but is still aiming to keep the intimate vibes that they pulled off oh so well last year.

Farr fest opened it's doors to a reasonably small crowd of mostly friends and family last summer ( As i understand it it is run by the Farr family, hence the name.....correct me if I'm wrong here?) and things went so well they have decided to do it all over again but this time with a bigger line up and a few more friends.

I'm a big fan of the smaller festivals when done properly, playing them as well as raving at them is a much more personal and friendly affair and i am super hyped about this one!

The Festival is set in Newnham, Hartfordshire. Making it pretty easy to get to for the London crowd (35 mins by train and under an hour by car) and keeping in the Farr Fest spirit tickets are dirt cheap (currently early birds going for £15!?) with a large hit of the profits going to charity.

We are very happy to be joining the bill alongside Lee Foss, Ewan Pearson, Julio Bashmore, J Phlip, Hackman, Sbtrkt , Osky plus many many more.

Farr fest is taking place over the weekend of the 30th July, so be sure to get on your tickets soon and checkout their website here as well as the mix below that Robin and I have done for the first in a series of pre festival promo mixes.

Firas & Jay Karim February Mixuals.

SUPERFILTH is this Friday - 25th Feb (our monthly throw down at 93 Feet East on Brick Lane) and as well as having the pleasure of welcoming DJ Birdee and Shooting Horses to the floor to name but a few we also have the delightful duo that is Firas and Jay Karim joining us for the first time to head up the pink bar.

You may have come across these two, both veterans of the ones and twos in their own right at some of their well
established parties including Filthy Few and Big in Japan as well as smashing the wax at a number of popping festivals over the past summer. Both long time friends and colleagues the guys made their official duo debut as "Firas and Jay Karim" at Fabric's Kill Em All party back in January (Not a bad start!) and things are looking to keep moving forward at a similar pace for these chaps with their debut Ep coming soon and a number of festival dates on the cards.

Make sure you get a listen to their February mix available for Mp3 download here or on the soundcloud player below. A superb selection of house, future soul and nuff deep groovy slices. Track listing and mix art work also below.

Please check out the SUPERFILTH event page here also and we'll hopefully see you all Friday.

Solo + Midgets = Win

Here's a lunchtime win for all you lovely house enthusiasts out there. A superb bootleg from our favorite Italian lover lover man Solo.

As ever, incorporating his love of little people in to it as well which in fact contrary to popular belief is actually a reference to a crew of midget Asian nomadic dwarfs who on Solo's original studio move to Brick Lane happened to help him out in obtaining a Henry during a particularly dry month in east London.

Anyway, enough waffling. Here's Solo's Midget Bootyleg of Louis Vega's "Love Ritual". Download it and get some Solo in your afternoon. Where I'm sitting right now it looks pretty summer like outside and this will definitely aid that illusion until the real sun appears.

Gill Scott-Heron & Jamie XX remix Album

I know two posts in one day is a little bit much but this is something that has had me very excited of late.
The legendary American poet, musician and author that is Gill Scott-Heron released his comeback album "I'm New Here" on XL back in February 2010 (Amazingly his first studio album in sixteen years down to a number of interrupting factors including jail time and rehab). I'm New Here has now been given the full official remix treatment by the incredibly talented Jamie Smith aka Jamie XX and is out on the 21st of February.... However, if you are as desperate to hear this as i am, it is now available for streaming over on the Guardians web site HERE . This is most definitely worth a listen.

Midland Quality

Midland, one of our favorite producers of the moment returns this month with his next release on More Music. Seamlessly cross breeding the boundaries of deeper grown up dubstep with a so current but still classic sounding house ethic (did i just type that?). Midland is definitely becoming serious property within the dance music underground.

The Below lead track "Bring Joy" is the out on 12" on the 21st February with Digital exclusive on Beatport for the 7th March and full Digital release 21st March.
Remix duties coming from Radio Slave and Youandewan.
Buy it!

Valentines Anthem

"Anthem" By Black Rose is out today on Made To Play. Black Rose is a collaboration between house heavy weights Jesse Rose and Henrik Schwarz and is set to be a regular name on the 2011 festival circuit with their upcoming live sets.
Liking this a lot and it is definitely one to put a bit of fun back on the dance floor. I can see this one being one of the festival Anthems of 2011......... now bring on the Summer!
