Crepe City 5 @ Bar Music Hall, London

Last one for this week i promise but we thought we should give you at least a weeks heads up for this one so you can free up your diary.

Crepe City 5 will be taking place at Bar Music Hall on Sunday the 4th of March. Crepe City is the UK's leading sneaker Festival and swap meet. The event will be hosting over 20 stalls pushing some of the finest, rarest and flyest Sneakers out there as well as a good wack of apparel too.




Nothing nicer that a Sunday roll around Shoreditch so why not head down and check out what's on show. Music will be provided by Crepe City residents and entry is a meager £2. DJ Sneaks # 19 - Dark Sky - XLR8R Mix

Ok, so not a "fresh" mix here today but one that your attention should be brought too if you haven't had the pleasure of hearing it yet. Its also accompanied by a very fresh pair of kicks.

If you're not on too Dark Sky yet you have been hiding your head under and very heavy rock. The trio consisting of Matt Benyayer, Tom Edwards and Carlo Anderson had a huge 2011 and have hit 2012 at full speed. Releases on Blunted Robots, 50 Weapons and Ninja Tune to name a few have secured them as one of the strongest new London acts around and there doesn't seem to be any plan to slow down.



For this edition of DJ Sneaks we thought we'd post Dark Sky's mix for XLR8R from back in July 2011. Firstly because the boys are so busy that getting a fresh mix out of them is a serious task and secondly it is a mix that should not be missed, voted number 7 in the XLR8R poll of 2011 mixes it definitely needs a second airing.

The mix lays down a good element of Dark Sky's club sets which are never the same, seeming to play to the moment with each of the members influences taking things from Chicago house to techno, Future dub (dare we say that?) to heavier steppers but never seeming to loose control of what they do well, bump up the rave. Saying that the art of the mix tape also pushes through perfectly in this selection plus there's a big slab of their own material cracked in for good measure. We caught up with Tom from Dark Sky for a quick afternoon pint at the superb Market Porter public house in Borough as well as a brief chat about his fresh kicks and what's coming up for Dark Sky.

The Sneaks.....
A very classy pair of what i think is the most tasteful Nike Air Max silhouette. The Air Max 1.
First released in 1987, Tom's pair shown below in the fore ground are the Black/White/Solar Flare colour way with him toning down the kicks nicely with a dark lace choice.



O - So Tom, tell us something about your kicks.

T - I like my kicks aired to the max and i got them on EBay.

O - Would you say you're an Air Max 1 kinda guy?

T - Hell yeah, right now they're my favorite kicks about.

O - And what's new with Dark Sky over the next few Months.

T - Well, we've got our forthcoming EP called " Black Rainbows" dropping on Black Acre in March. Gig wise we've got the Trouble Vision weekender coming up on Friday in London (27th Jan) which we're very excited about. We're also playing the Hush House take over at Mint Club Leeds next Tuesday (24th Jan) which should be another good one.

DJ Sneaks #16 Monkey Safari

Oooof! Got super excited when this DJ Sneaks edition came through this morning. Extra added value today with our first double Sneaker image, first DJ Sneaks featuring classic Asics, a seriously tight mix plus a snippet of a rather tasty release.

Hailing from Halle Germany, Monkey Safari have made quite an impact over the past few years smashing clubs the world over with their smooth sample based house. With their own label What! What! Rolling along nicely and the launch of their new label Mambo things are not looking to slow down anytime soon. We caught their set at Gottwood festival earlier in the summer and it was definitely one of our festival highlights. The guys are also members of the mighty Jackmode family and their new 4 track Ep “Big Mama” is out now as the third release on the new Jackmode label. We are loving the release a lot with the opening track “Son” going straight into our sets from now on.

Monkey Safaris Kicks-

Lars’ Kicks (Left) - A very classy pair Asics Gel-Lyte III reworked by Japanese brand Zillion here. The release name “Everything is a remix” is also the company motto for Zillion who are known for producing clothes made with material salvaged from old kimonos!? High quality Japanese fabric “Chirimen” is used on the uppers and the off white looks slick. Nice to see they are getting worn as well as this pair needs showing off.

Sven’s Kicks (Right) - Onitsuka Tiger koi klub model. This super limited pair are designed by the extremely cool Berlin berlin based Koi Club founder Yoske Nishumi. The collaboration series takes the classic 80s Asics X-Caliber kick and has turned them in to a very enviable shoe. Serious style vibes with the denim, black and red colour ways. I would like a pair of these.

This is what the guys had to say about them – “A good friend of ours sent us these strong limited shoes three months ago. We didn´t know how they were going to look like but she said we would definitely like them and yo, she was right. Now we doin our safaris almost every day in these nice boots.... sometimes in Memphis”

The Mix-

A superb mix opening with the amazing Poirot rework of Lykke Li’s “After Laughter” as well as being packed with their own originals and a number of other Jackmode fam favorites. Also note the crazy track going under the name “Safari in Memphis” by “Unknown” slipped in the second half of the mix. DJ Sneaks #15 Kitsch & Sync

Our latest DJ Sneaks mix for your ears today sent over by Mr Josh Panton. Josh... a highly skilled rave promoter, party purveyor and all round top bloke has put the mix together to showcase the sound of his new bi monthly party venture Kitsch & Sync which will next be taking place at Bar a Bar in stoke Newington on Saturday the 1st October. The venture is being being run by Josh and a rabble of other highly qualified party organising veteran as an excuse to get a proper Sunday party style house music vibe on a more accessible (work on Mondays tends to ruin a Sunday party for me at least) day of the week and more importantly without breaking the wallet.

Entry will be free but guest list only (We'll come to that shortly) and they have also taken the running of the bar for their events into their own hands keeping prices at a minimum. A hard worn but very classic pair of Nike Dunk Low Safaris.

Josh sent though quite possibly the best blurb we've been sent yet with a DJ Sneaks image so I'll let his words tell you what you need to know.

"The sneaks were my favourite shoes in the whole universe when I bought them and I only very recently gave them their funeral at Secret garden Party. Nike Dunk Low Safaris. A very rich man once offered me £300 when high on pills at Corsica studios to buy them off me + a taxi fare home to Streatham as obviously Id be leaving shoeless. I turned him down, the £300 would have gone a long way but these trainers are gonna stay with me forever. In their hay day they were without doubt the flyest shoes on the planet. Now they look old & disheveled but wink like an old man in a chair reminiscing over his philandering days."

Josh's Mix.

A mix of slow sexy grooves building up to some meaty heads down house later on. This is what he had to say about it. "Mixed at 8 am after getting home, on my turntables. No funny business, just Serato & records. A vein and slightly tipsy attempt to try and showcase the music from Kitsch & sync."

DJ Sneaks #10 Park Ranger - Stop Making Sense Festival mix

Back again today with an extremely good mix from our fellow Trouble Vision resident and brother from another mother Park Ranger.



Keeping in with the rave ridden kicks theme, Park Ranger has sent us a snap of his bounced in Pointer Mathieson's . Not to clued up on Pointer as a brand myself but from the pic below the Mathiesons are a fresh looking pair and have done well to look this smooth after the sessions they have been dragged through. A classic high top style with a wheat canvas and premium suede upper pulls off these alternative kicks nicely. Definitely a pair for someone wanting a high quality high top trainer but not wanting to go with the usual Nike or Adidas option.



This is what Park Ranger had to say about them: "The Sneakers were bought because they were expensive, i had some money from djing the night before and was out with a lady, so tried to impress her by buying some expensive shoes, i thought this might work as she works in a shoe shop - i really hope she doesn't read this"


Park Ranger's Mix.
This summer Trouble Vision will be making its first trip overseas hosting a beach party and boat party at Stop Making Sense Festival (12th, 13th, 14th of August) in Croatia. We are ridiculously excited to be joining in with the fun alongside artists including Midland, Floating Points, Jack Master and of course the whole Trouble Vision family. Trouble Vision long player Park Ranger has put together the latest mix in the SMS warm up series just to tease you in to booking that flight and making your way out for what is looking to be one of the best weekend of the summer.

In typical Park Ranger style the mix is floor less building up throughout and keeping things in a suitably summer state of mind. Definitely worth downloading and keeping this one as it will come in very handy for those summer park sessions over the upcoming weeks.
