Crepe City Video + Amara Por Dios

Look back at the Crepe City Event
Just a quick post to show you a short video put together with footage from last Sunday's Crepe City Sneaker sale at Bar Music Hall London. The video has been put together by James Measom and is soundtracked by AZ's "The Come Up".

Thought the rainy weather may hold a few people off but it wasn't the case. A superb afternoon of kicks and music. Make sure you keep an eye out for details of the next event coming up in the summer and big ups to Crepe City for all the hard Work.

Something else i thought you may want to check out below.

Amara Por Dios
Swedish artist/designer Amara Por Dios has some seriously cool things for you to check out and buy on her website here. Mixing up bold colours, sneaker culture and a splashing of South American/Aztec imagery has resulted in an amazingly fresh and fun portfolio. Have a look at the T design below featuring an image of the classic Jordan 3 white cements. I want one of these a lot.

More mixes to come before the end of the week or later today if i get the time :-)

Limited Selection - Disco Africa Mix

Big ups to the Casino Times boys for alerting me to this fresh and inspiring Wednesday morning mixtual.

Turns out Limited selection aka Jake Reed, one of Bournemouth/Oxford's "Get Your Geek On" man dem crew has spliced together a very refreshing mix for tonight's midweek Disco Africa party in Bournemouth. Joining him on the bill are a whole host of fine disco and deep house peddlers including the mighty Samson (ZooLookDisco) a man who legend has it once brought a herd of stampeding cattle to bay using only his smooth mixing skills and a bag of old disco 12"s.

Photobucket

Also joining the line up, Disco Africa's very own Gabriel De Souza as well as the resident Disco Africa crew.

Check out the Facebook page here for more deets.

Anyway, this mix has sorted my morning right out so i suggest you let it do the same for you. Get it on the player below.

We mentioned the Apocalypse 433 party series which opens this Friday (2nd March) a couple of posts ago for which we will be joining the opening night line up. Crepe City 5 @ Bar Music Hall, London

Last one for this week i promise but we thought we should give you at least a weeks heads up for this one so you can free up your diary.

Crepe City 5 will be taking place at Bar Music Hall on Sunday the 4th of March. Crepe City is the UK's leading sneaker Festival and swap meet. The event will be hosting over 20 stalls pushing some of the finest, rarest and flyest Sneakers out there as well as a good wack of apparel too.

Photobucket

Nothing nicer that a Sunday roll around Shoreditch so why not head down and check out what's on show. Music will be provided by Crepe City residents and entry is a meager £2. Friday Mixtuals - Pelski + Coat Of Arms + Creed & Stone

As promised we're back with three top level mixes for this week's Friday mixtuals. Really spoilt for choice here as each mix is a right beaut. I've had all of them playing on constant rotation over the past few days. Definitely all well worth downloading on to your players and they're also going to leave you trying dig out a weighty bag load of tracks.

First up every ones favorite blogger Pelski steps up with his latest splice.

Pelski - "House & Disco Fix #1".
Proving that he can mix like a goodun as well as having a very sharp ear, Pelski serves up a top class mix of laid back disco funk and groove laden house treats.

Photobucket

Stand out selections on this one including Dave Allison's "Soda Pop" prove he's on the ball when it comes to treating us to hard to find gems. Check it on the Soundcloud player below with a fresh download link here and track listing over on the Soundcloud page here.

Coat Of Arms - "February - March 2012 Mix"

With Eats Everything taking over the World and Chris James busy slamming out jam after jam you may be forgiven for overlooking their joint Project "Coat of Arms. Their debut record and massive Summer groove "Is this something" was a staple number in pretty much every DJ set i heard towards the end of last year.

Photobucket

The boys have recently joined Future Boogie on the bookings front so hopefully we'll be seeing a lot more of them as a duo over the nearing festival season. Check out the mix on the Soundcloud player below. Packed with Coat of Arms material taking you smoothly through a selection of sub ridden house and deep treats. Download also available here.

Creed & Stone - Sping Mix- 2012

Fresh from the Jackmode Berlin Office Creed & Stone have mixed us another big one. After meeting back in the Spring of 2011 their work for Klasse Recordings and Jackmode Agency brought together two chaps with a love for Berlin's underground house scene. Dickon Stone and James Creed decided to combine production, selection and DJ blendation skills and under the suitably appropriate name Creed & Stone haven't looked back since.

Photobucket

Filled with Deep percussive rollers, this one brings a slightly darker feel to the table but without loosing an inch of groove. Take an earful on the player below with download link also available over on the Soundcloud page.

Also below that check out James Creeds Solo release debut on Klasse Recordings - "The Soft Parade Ep" on the Soundcloud palyer at the bottom of the page. It's out now and available in all good download stores.

The Apocalypse is Coming......at 433

So as promised, we got loads of stuff for you this week. Today is strictly one for the London crew or anyone that may be visiting town next Friday.

We are super hyped for this one as a lot of effort is going into every aspect of the party....that and there's something special about taking a very large sound system and cracking it in the middle of ware house.

Friday the 2nd March brings the first party in the Apocalypse Survival Guide series, and what a session it is looking to be. Taking place at the 433, a new creative community venue based on Caledonian Road, N7. The guys behind it are promising to bring "a series of interactive, immersive and experimental late night clubbing events" which sounds like a sack load of fun to me.

Photobucket

The parties.....or chapters as they are being called open with the theme "Appeasing the gods". The 433 are enforcing a strict Mayan fancy dress theme with Mayan beauticians on the door to spruce up any one to dull or late to put in the effort for a small palm crossing of gold nuggets. Guests will be welcomed in to the warehouse-turned-temple with performances and interaction from actors/sacrificial priests thoughout the night. I've seen some sneaky pics of the DJ booth being built and it looks like this is going to be something seriously worth checking out.

We will be joining the DJ line up for the evening alongside Fife & Lex Darker (Yeah, Maybe), Ad Pan (Audio Farm) and resident Larry Sun (The 433).

Got a feeling tickets are going to fly for this one so get over to the Facebook page here for full details as well as the links below and we'll hopefully see you there!

DJ Sneaks #20 Too Many T's

Yes yes!

Finally back with another DJ Sneaks and hopefully a selection of superb mix tapes later in the week.

This DJ Sneaks edition we're bringing in the Hip Hop. Fresh from the Camberwell streets......well maybe a comfy bench in the Camberwell Tiger (South London's finest boozer for those that don't know).

Photobucket

Too Many T's step up this time round with a mix spliced together by their occasional collaborator and DJ on hand Mr Biscuits. But first a little bit about the boys themselves.

Too Many T's.... aka Ross Standaloft and Leon Rhymes are two lovable cheek mongers of an Emcee duo. After forming in the summer of 2011, Too Many T's have been gaining attention from all directions with their tight but tongue in cheek take on rap all laid down over real sounding funk and Sesame street soul influenced hip hop beats. Check out the below video for their track "Medina life" to get an example of this if my use of descriptives above has left you a little lost. The video recorded in on the streets of Marrakesh last Spring and released in December it definitely gives you an idea of what the boys are about.

The Kicks.
Was pretty hyped to get Too Many T's to step up for the kicks mix as i know Leon Rhymes is a bit of a trainer addict as well. Up Towns all the way with Leon selecting a pretty different pair of Nike Air Force 1s for show and tell. Here's his bit about them.....

"Trekking around New York's Lower East side looking for some fresh kicks at the end of 2011 I stumbles across these fresh AF1s in a vintage store - unworn but without the box - in perfect size and had to have em. Love the double set of red and pink laces and the splatter mid soles to give it that extra pop. Now i know they were release in 2008 and it turns out they're Supremes - and women's - but I'm now in touch with my feminine side, and anyway, they look fresh as fook"

Photobucket

The Mix -

A corker of a mix laid down from a selection of Too Many T's influential jams. Mr Biscuit brings the skills in big time as well, with every track cut, rubbed and mixed too a T....
Featuring classic Eric B and Rakim right through to classic UK beauts by artists including Jehst and Foreign Beggars. Most definitely one for the download. Check it on the Soundcloud player below also featuring the DL link.

Find more deets on Too Many Ts on the links below and for the London crew check out their high energy live show, Friday the 9th March at the Hoxton Pony, Shoreditch.

Artworks Amsterdam, Throwing Snow XLR8R mix, J Dilla tribute tape

Sorry for the small amount of content recently, the last few weeks have been rather busy and our broken promises of a new DJ Sneaks and all the rest have been noted so we'll try and pick things up for you soon.

A few little nuggets to make you aware of today.

Artworks Amsterdam
Firstly we're going to be in Amsterdam this Thursday (16th Feb) laying down some tunes at the Artworks exhibition and after party. The exhibition itself will be featuring work by Super A, M Jay, Collin Van Der Sluijs and Rutger Termohlen. We'll be joining the Hear No Evil team in providing beats along side Throwing Snow and Blende. Check out Ross Throwing Snow's XLR8R mix from January over on the XLR8R site here for some serious tune selection as well as a number of his own Jams.

It's Our first trip to the Dam so any Dutch readers out there drop by and say hello. Heard big things about the Artworks exhibition parties. RSVP here - exhibition@glassworksamsterdam.nl for entry with full deets of the event here and the exhibition flyer below.

J Dilla - A Tribute to the Drum.
Made aware of this by the missus so props to her for for alerting your ears to this one.
Last week was the anniversary of the passing of one of hip hops greatest producers.

James Sewitt Yancey aka J Dilla was one of the true masters of the MPC. His beats are the basis of what hip hop is to me and his productions for a Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, Erykah Badu and many many more are some of the greatest examples of smooth soulful sampling ever laid down .
The below is a collection of influenced tributes and Dilla remixes that you need on your music player and it's all up for free download.

And as i said earlier, more posts, mixes and general banterbury to come soon so hold tight.

Going to finish with this.

The Weekend!

So, the weekend (and pay day for a lot of people) has finally come round. And unfortunately due to a mad list of things to do before 6pm we haven't got a big post for you today. Hold tight for a bag of new mixes coming in next week including a DJ Sneaks from Too Many Ts (taking us on a wee UK hip hop tip).

For those of you heading to Trouble Vision tonight and/or tomorrow night we'll see you there. It's looking to be a massive one to kick off 2012 and i am more than excited.

We're going to leave you with something fresh and smooth to ease you in to a weekend of sweaty warehouses and noisy beats.

I had the pleasure of meeting this dude last night and he's also joining us for his first UK rave adventure tonight. Jake Kost is over visiting the UK from his home lands of Portland Oregon, US of A.

Turns out he writes a few words here and there and has also put those word down over some very smooth beats and produced a couple of pretty cool videos to go with them. It's definitely rare to hear new US hip hop of this quality over in the UK these days as the flow of major label mush and over produced rubbish is all up in our faces. The influences of acts like People Under The Stairs and The Pharcyde sadly no longer grace the ipods of todays average British youths.

Anyway, ease it all in with a listen of the below and we'll catch you on the other side.
If you like the videos check out his Soundcloud here and show some love.

Safe weekends.

The Rapture - Come Back to Me (Greymatter WOLF Rework)

Oooooft, is the best noise to describe this one. Big ups to the Bicep boys for alerting us to this. The mighty Greymatter returns with a naughty rework of The Rapture's "Come back to me". Possibly my favorite track off their recent album and Greymatter has reworked it in true Wolf music style.

Check out John Malcom Moore's accompanying visuals on the YouTube player below and get on over to the Feel My Bicep blog here for a free download WAV.

Cheers chaps, this one going straight in the bag.

DJ Sneaks # 19 - Dark Sky - XLR8R Mix

Ok, so not a "fresh" mix here today but one that your attention should be brought too if you haven't had the pleasure of hearing it yet. Its also accompanied by a very fresh pair of kicks.

If you're not on too Dark Sky yet you have been hiding your head under and very heavy rock. The trio consisting of Matt Benyayer, Tom Edwards and Carlo Anderson had a huge 2011 and have hit 2012 at full speed. Releases on Blunted Robots, 50 Weapons and Ninja Tune to name a few have secured them as one of the strongest new London acts around and there doesn't seem to be any plan to slow down.

Photobucket

For this edition of DJ Sneaks we thought we'd post Dark Sky's mix for XLR8R from back in July 2011. Firstly because the boys are so busy that getting a fresh mix out of them is a serious task and secondly it is a mix that should not be missed, voted number 7 in the XLR8R poll of 2011 mixes it definitely needs a second airing.

The mix lays down a good element of Dark Sky's club sets which are never the same, seeming to play to the moment with each of the members influences taking things from Chicago house to techno, Future dub (dare we say that?) to heavier steppers but never seeming to loose control of what they do well, bump up the rave. Saying that the art of the mix tape also pushes through perfectly in this selection plus there's a big slab of their own material cracked in for good measure. Check the original post here for download, track listing and Streaming.

We caught up with Tom from Dark Sky for a quick afternoon pint at the superb Market Porter public house in Borough as well as a brief chat about his fresh kicks and what's coming up for Dark Sky.

The Sneaks.....
A very classy pair of what i think is the most tasteful Nike Air Max silhouette. The Air Max 1.
First released in 1987, Tom's pair shown below in the fore ground are the Black/White/Solar Flare colour way with him toning down the kicks nicely with a dark lace choice.

Photobucket

O - So Tom, tell us something about your kicks.

T - I like my kicks aired to the max and i got them on EBay.

O - Would you say you're an Air Max 1 kinda guy?

T - Hell yeah, right now they're my favorite kicks about.

O - And what's new with Dark Sky over the next few Months.

T - Well, we've got our forthcoming EP called " Black Rainbows" dropping on Black Acre in March. Gig wise we've got the Trouble Vision weekender coming up on Friday in London (27th Jan) which we're very excited about. We're also playing the Hush House take over at Mint Club Leeds next Tuesday (24th Jan) which should be another good one.

O - Cheers for the words Tom.

T- Safe
